Refreshing

Postby JeffR » Fri Feb 26, 2010 7:48 am

Refreshing - Refreshing is the feeling of jubilation one experiences after riding the last 10,000 miles on $$!$@!@!#@$! square !#@#$!%!^ Dick Cepek Tires and has them replaced with nice smooth round BFG A/T's.

Now my only issue is due to the fact that I only could afford to replce the fronts and how warn the rears are my front tires are a tad bit more than an inch taller than my rears

Glad to hear that you were atleast able to replace the front tires. The tire size will just make four wheel drive all that more interesting.

What size did you end up going with? Glad you like them so far....as I've said, I've had not complaints about those tires at all.

Well I have 33 x 12.5 x 16 Dick Cepek on the rear which is a true 33" tire when new. On the front I have 295/75/16 which calculates out to 33.4 x 11.6 but the BFG Website states 33.2 x 11.5. So if I worn down my rear tires say 16/32nds of the new 20/32nds, that makes them 32" tall. You all don't think I'll screw something up when I go into 4x4 do you.

I wouldn't put it into 4WD on any type of hard surface, such as rock until you have all 4 tires matching. So long as you are on slick roads, snow or mud you should be ok. My biggest concern would be if the tires have great traction and cannot slip at all.

The problem being that the front will try to turn a little faster than the rear when locked into 4WD. So as stated if the front can slip as needed you should be OK for awhile. Saturdays run shouldn't hurt anything. Just don't get too crazy with that big hairy chrome skinny pedal.

Just an idea Jeff, air down the fronts a half to a pound more than the backs. Might make the diameters close to the same.

before I got my km2s I was riding on 3 different tire sizes (due to wear and what I can only guess was about a 50,000 mile rotation schedule) one of which was near useless 2 fair and one with "good" tread. I would guess from worst to best was near 1/2 maybe 3/4" difference. I never noticed anything whilst out and about in 4 dig, though I never was in high traction situations, nor could I electronically lock all my tires to the same speed.
